Description
A Moldavite gem set with Sterling Silver. This piece measures approximately 25mmx35mm. The chain is a sterling silver fully adjustable 22″ chain.
Moldavite is a tektite – in that it was formed in the earth by some source of heat. Most tektites are found in Germany or more recently Bohemia, western Moravia, the Cheb Basin (northwest Bohemia), Lusatia (Germany), and Waldviertel (Austria). Most Moldavite is green with some found as brownish in color. This particular piece has been polished on two end sides. One defining feature of Moldavite is the natural texture found on its surface. Some people like to posit that Moldavite is from space, but that is generally because they have been found where meteorites have crashed to the earth. Science believes that Moldavite is a form of glass – made from the heat of the meteorite.
I do most of my own lapidary work, sourcing my stones as close to the miner as possible. I create all the sterling silver settings from flat metal or wire.
Hand-crafted art/jewelry are one-of-a-kind pieces and generally are not duplicated exactly. Stones vary, measurements vary. I can collaborate with you if you would like to have a piece made for you or for someone else. Sterling silver may be polished with any number of good silver cleaner/polish products. Natural stones are fragile and may break if dropped, heated directly, stepped on, etc. Care should be taken.
