Description

Rutilated Quartz approximately 29.88x21x8.12mm.  It weighs 38.770ct. This is a superior cabochon. The back is clean and smooth and is only slightly polished.  It has not been stabilized or treated in any fashion.

The photographs are take in daylight, no artificial light is used.  I have cropped the photo but I have not “enhanced” it in any other way.

Rutilated quartz is a variety of quartz which contains acicular (needle-like) inclusions of rutile.  These inclusions mostly look golden, but they also can look silver, copper red or deep black.  They can be distributed randomly or in bundles, which sometimes are arranged star-like, and they can be sparse or dense enough to make the quartz body nearly opaque.  While otherwise inclusions often reduce the value of a crystal, rutilated quartz in fact is valued for the quality and beauty of these inclusions.

I get my stone materials and cut, shape and polish them myself.  In general, I attempt to buy from the collector or some person no more than one step removed from the collector/miner.  Because I do all of my cutting/carving/polishing myself – there may be slight inconsistencies to the shape of the cabochon.  If this is generally accepted and does not very much affect the overall cabochon I will not mention it.  If you are looking for a “perfect” cab then you should find a seller from India or China or some other mass producer – these are generally made in factories.  I pick the placement of the cut to best profile the rock it comes from.  I do not sell any material that I would not use myself.

Natural stones are fragile and may break if dropped, heated directly, exposed to extreme temperatures, stepped on, etc.  Care should be taken.

People’s experience with cabochon’s vary.  Buying sight unseen sometimes results in perceptions that are unexpected.  I do accept returns, within 30 days of your purchase date.  The risk at this, however, is shared.  I will accept the return, but you must notify me in advance of your intention.  You will pay the return shipping.  The piece must be 100% in the same good condition in which I shipped it.  You must repackage the cab to ensure it arrives to me in unharmed condition (I would resuse the original shipping materials!).  I recommend you insure the piece to protect yourself.  Keep in mind that USPS or most any shipper will only take responsibility if the package is damaged…  Improperly cushioned/packaged items will not likely be reimbursed even with insurance.  Once I receive the cab I will promptly reimburse you in the same manner in which you paid me (credit card or PayPal).
