Green Moss Agate Cabochon is approximately 34×19.18×7.6mm.  It weighs 39.030ct. The back is clean and smooth and is only slightly polished.  This cab features an exposure of the host material which I have left in place as I believe it adds to the beauty of the piece as a whole.  The “lines” are old healed fractures.  It’s a nice hard and stable stone.  It has not been stabilized or treated in any fashion.

The photographs are take in daylight, no artificial light is used.  I have cropped the photo but I have not “enhanced” it in any other way.

Moss Agate is a semi-precious gemstone formed from silicon dioxide.  It is a form of chalcedony with embedded minerals in the stone, forming filaments and other patterns suggestive of moss.  The field is a clear or milky-white quartz and the included minerals are mainly oxides of manganese or iron.  The colors are formed due to trace amounts of metal present as an impurity, such as chrome or iron.  The metals can make different colors depending one their valence (oxidation state).

I get my stone materials and cut, shape and polish them myself.  In general, I attempt to buy from the collector or some person no more than one step removed from the collector/miner.  Because I do all of my cutting/carving/polishing myself – there may be slight inconsistencies to the shape of the cabochon.  If this is generally accepted and does not very much affect the overall cabochon I will not mention it.  If you are looking for a “perfect” cab then you should find a seller from India or China or some other mass producer – these are generally made in factories.  I pick the placement of the cut to best profile the rock it comes from.  I do not sell any material that I would not use myself.

Natural stones are fragile and may break if dropped, heated directly, exposed to extreme temperatures, stepped on, etc.  Care should be taken.

People’s experience with cabochon’s vary.  Buying sight unseen sometimes results in perceptions that are unexpected.  I do accept returns, within 30 days of your purchase date.  The risk at this, however, is shared.  I will accept the return, but you must notify me in advance of your intention.  You will pay the return shipping.  The piece must be 100% in the same good condition in which I shipped it.  You must repackage the cab to ensure it arrives to me in unharmed condition (I would resuse the original shipping materials!).  I recommend you insure the piece to protect yourself.  Keep in mind that USPS or most any shipper will only take responsibility if the package is damaged…  Improperly cushioned/packaged items will not likely be reimbursed even with insurance.  Once I receive the cab I will promptly reimburse you in the same manner in which you paid me (credit card or PayPal).
