Beautiful Turquoise Pendant. This turquoise is from the Royston Mine (North of Tonopah Nevada). This is cut in an oval/teardrop shape of approx. 19x30mm. This pendant is a nice match with my ring #R02619.
Turquoise is an opaque, blue-to-green mineral that is a hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminium. Much turquoise you see in America is from Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico or Mexico. There are a few active mines. There are many mines that no longer produce. People passionate and knowledgable about turquoise will know which mine their pieces are from. Much turquoise is not very hard and is often stabilized – which is done in a number of ways. Stabilized turquoise has no negative connotations and makes it no less desirable. Turquoise is also (like opal) backed – with several different substances – one of the most common being epoxy. Stabilizing and backing make for a more successful cut in the lapidary process.
Metaphysiclly: Turquoise stone meaning is associated with personal protection.
Each piece of jewelry is made by me. I purchase rough material (the stone) and cut, shape and polish it. I design and make the setting and set the stone.
