Estate Rust op Twist

What is Rust op Twist? When the Danish settled St. Croix the island was divided into areas of sugar cane plantations.
Though the plantations are long gone and only their ruins remain, many areas of the island are still referred to
by their original plantation names.
Our home was originally part of Estate Rust op Twist (Rest after Toil) plantation. Some intact buildings and
the ruins are across the Northshore Road from our home. The old sugar mill is spectacular atop the hill.
Mrs. Candy Dyer, the plantation grounds property owner and resident graciously allows visitors to wander the property and
explore the ruins.
